Right in the middle of the lake of Tunis, there is a small island with a former Roman fort which was reconstructed by the Spanish and then left abandoned for so many years that it became the territory of wild birds.

After a 9km walk on a landform (it’s better to do it with bikes but we didn’t have them at that time) you can reach the fort with a breathtaking view of the whole Tunis right from the center of the lake.

The fort is also near the main airport so the planes land and take off really really low from there all along with the wild birds.
